Background
Massage could be considered in some ways the first form of antenatal care. Traditional midwives would massage women during their pregnancies, births and in the postnatal period. Now, modern care has become very technological, bringing some benefits and adaptations to the modern world, but midwives often lack time for the touch based, one to one time which is extremely valuable for pregnant women and their families. Massage and bodywork can help fill in this gap: but it is vital that bodyworkers have adequate training and are competent to work alongside the women’s primary caregiver (midwife, obstetrician). The book and the seminar aim to address some of these issues.
