Massage for the Postnatal Mother
This two day course is open to those who have completed the APNT Massage for Pregnancy Diploma
Content
This course focuses on how to use massage to support the mother in the postnatal period from birth for the first year. We will be considering the implications of the birth experience (for example working with scar tissue, after a caesarean section, to support postnatal abdominal pelvic floor recovery ) as well as looking at supporting breastfeeding (including prevention of mastitis ) and bonding with the baby. We also look at supporting the mother’s long-term health and in addition to massage, include some exercises for the mother with and without baby and postural awareness.
Assessment
During the course you will work with a postnatal client. After the course you will work with 2 postnatal clients after the course and write up the case histories. You will also write a short essay on massage in the postnatal period.
On completion of the course, you will gain a certificate to verify your competence in postnatal work.
